5 Tips To De-Clutter Without Stressing Out

It's so very easy to feel overwhelmed when you're approaching a de-cluttering and cleaning project.  However, it doesn't have to be so bad! Here are my five top tips to make De-Cluttering a bit easier.

1. Think Progress Not Perfection
Be easy on yourself while completing tasks of cleaning and de-cluttering. It can be difficult to make some decisions on what to keep, toss and how to organize. Have a little compassion and keep thinking "Progress Not Perfection".

2. De-Clutter Then Organize
Of course we all love those amazing cubbies and organizers from The Container Store and similar retailers.  It's even more fun to color code, label and REALLY organize the heck out of your stuff.  Unfortunately during the de-cluttering phase this should not be a priority. You can still dream of the cute containers and storage systems, but now is the time to focus on de-cluttering.  Organization should come AFTER everything has been cleaned out.

3. Break Down Each Project Into Mini Projects
Going into a kitchen clean and de-clutter project with the idea that you're going to accomplish the entire kitchen today is totally overwhelming! It's so much easier to create several small goals. For example, clean out the junk drawer, then perhaps your next goal would be to organize the utensils. Continue with small goals and before you know it the entire room will be completed.

4. Make Lists
I'm the queen of lists! Take a few minutes over a cup of tea to actually write down specifically what your goals are. Make headings, lists and details. When you complete a task, take a bright highlighter and mark of the task. This will feel so great!

5. Honor and Enjoy Your Accomplishments
Take time after your accomplishment to really honor the time you devoted to the cleaning and de-cluttering and appreciate all that this organization will bring you.  Think about how much time you'll save, how much better you'll feel and how much smoother your day and tasks will become!

What are your awesome cleaning and de-cluttering tips? I'd love to hear them!
